William G. Blackburn had married his first wife, Elizabeth Long, on 8 Nov 1829 in Steubenville, Ohio. Immediately after their marriage, William and Elizabeth moved to Penn Twp., Morgan County, Ohio to live among the Quaker community there. Their children were born there between 1830 and 1851 and Elizabeth (Long) Blackburn actually left William G. and moved with her children to Missouri in 1865 or 1866.

At some point after 1860, William returned to Jefferson County, Ohio. His oldest daughter, Mary L. (Blackburn) Megrail died in 1863 and she was living in Smithfield in Jefferson County. Mary's husband, Thomas, had died in 1862, so perhaps William went back to help with that family.

William G. Blackburn married Mary Ruth Phillips on May 24, 1867. [She is recorded as Mary R. Brown as she was a widow of a Mr. Brown and supposedly had a child by the name of John Brown.] After a search with several different pair of eyes, this couple has yet to be found in the 1870 census. A son Joseph William Blackburn was born 8/24/1870 and Jefferson County, Ohio records list a daughter, Cora M., born to them on 5/8/1874 in Smithfield Township.

The children of William G. Blackburn and Elizabeth Long (b. Dec 1, 1804)are:

Mary L. Aug 22, 1830
Ann May 15, 1832
Thomas Feb 25, 1834
Elizabeth Oct 5, 1836
Sarah May 16, 1839
Jane H. May 27, 1842
John William Feb 16, 1845
Margaret, born ca 1851

William's mother's maiden name was Griffith and his brother John had a middle name of Griffith so it is a distinct possibility that his middle intial of G stands for the name Griffith.

Records in the Morgan County Court House show that William G. Blackburn purchased 80 acres of land for $800. the land was located in Penn. Township, range 12, Township 9, Sec 2. Date of transaction was 1/25/1837.

The same 80 acres was sold 8/23/1860 by W.G. Blackburn and his wife Elizabeth for $1600. The transaction was witnessed by Jennie M Blackburn.
