Jaley was raised by her mother Sarah Belle Sea and her stepfather John Hammons, sometimes spelled Hammonds.
Married on September 10, 1889 in McKee Township, Jackson County, Kentucky. She and Cash were the parents of ten known children: Maudie B. Hurst Drew, Jesse Hurst, Sarah Ellen Hurst Allen, Benjamin Franklin Hurst, Nora Virginia Hurst Hughes, Berry Clay Hurst, Stanley Hurst, William Bradley Hurst. Denna Hurst Lunsford and Lela Mae Hurst Frisbee.
My Aunt Joan Hurst, always spoke fondly of Jaley (her grandmother-in-law).

Mrs. Jaley Hurst Dies at 96 Years; Rites on Saturday
Mrs. Jaley Ann Hurst, 96, 1174 Hunt Ave., was dead on arrival Thursday at Fort Hamilton Hospital, after an illness of several years.
Mrs. Hurst was born in Jackson County, Ky., Dec. 29, 1874, a daughter of Berry and Belle Sea Powell, and was educated there.
Mrs. Hurst had been a resident of Hamilton since 1925 and was a member of the Kenworth Ave. Church of God.
Enjoyed Family
She enjoyed her church, home and family, and spent much time crocheting and quilting.
On Sept. 12, 1888, she was married to Cash Hurst, in McKee, Ky., and he preceded her in death, Dec. 25, 1943.
Mrs. Hurst leaves four sons, Jesse Hurst, Indiannola, Ill., Berry Hurst, Stanley Hurst, Hamilton , and Bradley Hurst, Hamilton; two daughters, Mrs. Ralph (Lela Frisbee, Monroe, Mich., Mrs. Raymond (Dena) Lunsford, Hamilton, with whom she resided; two brothers, Matt and Alex Powell, Berea, Ky; two sisters, Mrs. Lettie Brown, Huntingberg, Ind., Lida Lakes, McKee, Ky.; 47 grandchildren; 84 great grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her two sons, Ben and Hiram Hurst; three daughters, Maude Drew, Sarah Allen and Nora Hughes.
Rites Saturday
Funeral services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Brown-Dawson Funeral Home, 330 Pershing Ave., with the Rev. John Richardson, former pastor and the Rev. Charles Rosson, pastor of the Kenworth Ave. Church, in charge.
Visitation will be Friday from 4 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home and burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
