George W. Red Burr Jr. 83, a lifelong resident of Weymouth, died at home, Sunday, Dec. 5, 2010, surrounded by his loving family. He was a mechanic for the MBTA and retired in 1986 after 15 years. He was also a chef at the former Fox & Hounds Restaurant in Quincy for 25 years. He was a member of the MBTA Pensioner Club. He enjoyed playing cards, pool and billiards. He was also an avid sports fan. Above all, he especially enjoyed being with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was the beloved husband of Eleanor M. (Driscoll) Burr; devoted father of John D. Burr and his wife Connie of Brockton, Elaine F. Lane and her husband Jack of Weymouth, George W. Burr III and his husband Michael of Brockton and Patricia A. DeVito and her husband Stephen of Brockton; brother of Jean G. Patten of Quincy, Roy C. Burr of New York, Ann S. Laneau of Weymouth, Robert M. Burr of Plymouth and the late Gertrude E. Brown, Ruth M. Davis and William W. Burr. Also survived by eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Visiting hours in the McDonald Funeral Home, South Weymouth, at 809 Main St. (Rte. 18 opp. So. Shore Hosp.), Wednesday, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Relatives and friends invited. Funeral service in the funeral home, Thursday morning, at 11. Interment Fairmount Cemetery, Weymouth.
