The son of James Singleton and Martha Chalk, he was married to Elizabeth A Harmon. He enlisted as a private on August 18, 1862 for service with Company C, 7th Infantry Regiment Maryland and transferred into Company H, 1st Infantry Regiment Maryland on June 1, 1865. He mustered out at Arlington Heights, Virginia on July 2, 1865. He filed for, and received, a pension on June 19, 1880; his wife filed, and received, his pension November 1, 1904. He died of tuberculosis.
