MARYVILLE, Mo. -- Peter Clarence Jensen, 84, Maryville, died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 1999, at a Maryville Health-Care Center.

Born May 29, 1914, in Forest City, Iowa, Mr. Jensen, a carpenter, was a 1933 graduate of the Britt High School, Britt, Iowa, serving two years in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) before enlisting in the U.S. Navy, where he served from 1935 to 1946. He spent most of his military service time in Central America and at the Newport News Naval Training Station, in Rhode Island, where he assisted in the training of Naval Officer Canidates. His on board ship assignments and experiences took him from San Diego, California to Hawaii, the Panama Canal Zone, Washington, DC, Norfolk, Virginia, Cuba, Haiti, and Key West, Florida.

He later lived in Saint Paul, Mn. from 1946 to 1951, Clay Commo, Mo. from 1951 to 1953. Lawson, Mo., from 1953 to 1961, Kansas City, Mo., from 1961 to 1965, Grandview, Mo., from 1965 to 1971, Pittsburg, Mo., from 1971 to 1996, Richmond, Mo., from 1996-1997, and was a resident of Maryville for two years.

He was a member of Hickory Christian Church, Pittsburg, Mo.; Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Carpenter's Union. He was active in the Boy Scouts of America reaching the rank of Life Scout. During his adult life, he was a Scout Master, District Commisioner, graduate of Wood Badge, and Honorary Warrior in the "Tribe of Mic-O-Say". He loved working with youth and kept involved in youth groups and community activities.

In February of 1961, he married Evelyn Tyler in Nashua, Iowa. She died in 1997. Born the last of nine children, he was preceded in death by his parents, Martin C. and Mary C.; four brothers, John, Jens, Harold, and Ray; and three sisters, Adline Jensen, Christine Andersen, and Louise Seifert. Surviving: two daughters, Joan Jensen, Maryville, and Sandra Swope, Wood Heights, Mo.; two sons, Peter M. "Bubby", Pasadena, Md., and Richard P. "Ricky", Kansas City; a stepson, Thane Tyler, Houston, Texas; a sister, Elizabeth Seifert, Corpus Christie, Texas; six grandchildren (Kirk, Laurie, and Amy Bellis --- Mike, Amanda, and Mary Jensen), and two great-grandchildren (Holly and Garren Bellis). Service: 3 p.m. today, Price Funeral Home, Maryville. Burial: St. Mary's Cemetery, Maryville.
