Harry was born Oct. 20, 1941, to the late Jack C. and Louise Goodman Whitener.
Mr. Whitener is survived by his loving wife, Vickie Helton Whitener; sons, Joshua Whitener and wife Anne of Mount Holly; Justin Whitener and his wife Liz of Gastonia; grandson, favorite fishing and golfing buddy, Grant Evan of Mount Holly; sister, Becky Punch and husband Dale of Lincolnton; and his pet dog Bentley, whom he loved dearly.
Harry was a member of First Baptist Church of Stanley since 1971 where he had taught the Adult Co-ED Sunday School Class for more than 20 years, served as deacon for more than 30 years and was dedicated to the Outreach and Soul Winning Ministry for more than 40 years. Harry's greatest love and joy came in sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ to everyone who he met. He was committed to reaching the lost through the visitation and outreach minis-try of First Baptist Church. He loved going into the community and visiting in homes, and working to bring new lives to the church to lead the lost to Christ. His humble attitude and true loving personality provided the opportunity for him to be a Godly man who loved the Lord, loved his family and loved his church.
He was retired from Carolina Freight Carriers in Cherryville and ABF in Kernersville after 30 years. After his retirement, he worked part time as a funeral assistant, playing golf and enjoying life to the fullest.
A celebration of Harry's life will be held at Church of Stanley, 409 Old Mount Holly Road, with Pastor Billy Shaw and the Rev. Dick Whitener officiating. Burial will follow in High Shoals Memorial Gardens.
