Joseph E. Brand Sr., 67, of Utica died Wednesday, April 26, 2000, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. He was born in Stanley, was retired as a cook for the Army Reserve after 37 years and from Redimix Concrete after 25 years. He was a member of Blessed Mother Catholic Church and McLean County Fish and Game and enjoyed reading, watching westerns and mechanic work. Survivors include his wife of 11 years, Katherine Payne Brand; five sons, Joe Brand Jr. of Philpot, Tim Brand of Alpharetta, Ga., and Tom Brand, Chris Brand and Philip Brand, all of Utica; a daughter, Jeannine Brand Baylot of Tucker, Ga.; four stepsons, James Payne Jr. of Masonville, Michael Payne Sr. of Owensboro, David Payne Sr. of Hartford and Tony Payne of Pleasant Ridge; four stepdaughters, Cecilia Hodges of Hartford, Shelia Byrne of Stanley, Patty Vowels of Pleasant Ridge and Becky Hester of Newman; seven grandchildren; 23 stepgrandchildren; and 17 stepgreat-grandchildren. Services are at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Blessed Mother Catholic Church in Owensboro. Burial will be in St. Peter Cemetery in Stanley. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today and after 8:30 a.m. Saturday at Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro. Prayers will be said at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
