Lourene H. Golladay
(September 17, 1920 - September 12, 2012)
Lourene H. Golladay, 91, of Grandview, passed away on September 12, 2012. She was born September 16, 1920, in Culver, Oregon, to Fred and Jessie (Dart) Fulgham.

Lourene and her family moved to McMinnville, Oregon around 1925 and then to Lexington, Oregon around 1934. The Fulgham family moved to Grandview, Washington in 1939. She attended high school in Heppner, Oregon for two years and graduated from Grandview High School with the class of 1940.

Lourene married Clarence Golladay on November 25, 1940, in Grandview. They farmed in the Grandview area then moved in 1945 to the farm where Clarence was born and raised. Here they ran a dairy until the early 1950s at which time they converted their farmland to concord grapes and asparagus.

A devoted wife and mother, Lourene had a large vegetable garden and canned, pickled, and preserved a large supply of goods for her family. Her yard was a great source of enjoyment and pride. She could encourage anything to grow whether it was a house plant started from a cutting or a new rosebush for her flower garden. A gifted seamstress, Lourene made clothes for her daughters and herself. Later on she took up quilting where she and the neighbor ladies would spend winter hours quilting together. As a member of the Jolly Ranchers, a Rural Club Conference club, Lourene served as the club's president many times over the years. She looked forward to their monthly meetings in neighbor members' homes, as well as hosting meetings in her home for fun, food, and fellowship. Lourene also belonged to the Cy-Co (Cynthia Copeland) Garden Club that gathered in members' homes north of Grandview monthly, sharing garden information and hosting occasional guest speakers. Lourene was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Grandview. She made sure her husband and children were there every Sunday, and the kids were expected to behave themselves, too! She served as Missionary President and as director of many Christmas programs. Potlucks were also a great time for Lourene to share her newest or best recipes to everyone's delight. Her sense of humor, quick smile, and desire to help others made her a joy to be around.

Lourene Golladay is survived by her sons, Fredrick Golladay (Mary), of Chevy Chase, Maryland, and Donald Golladay (Terria), of Sunnyside; and daughters, Verna Mae Golladay, of Dallas, Texas and Carol Hushman(Bill) , of Portland, Oregon; sister, Arlis Fulgham, of Longview, Washington; brother, Wendell Russell Fulgham, of Bellevue, Washington; and sister-in-law, Ramona Fulgham, of Othello, Washington, as well as eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, three step great-grandchildren and a legion of cousins, nieces and nephews.

Lourene was preceded in death by husband Clarence Golladay, her parents, infant sister Averill Fulgham, sister Alberta Graves, and brother Edmond Fulgham.

Memorial contributions may be made to Church of the Nazarene Ministries of Concern.
