DR. PHILLIP J. ENSLEN

Dr. Phillip J. Enslen, 77, of Monroe, died April 17, 2002 at his residence.

He was born June 2, 1924 in Elmore County, Ala. to the late Phillip Judkins Enslen Sr. and the late Isabel Jones Enslen. He served his community and his profession unselfishly during his 44 year career as a dedicated family physician. He was an outspoken and forceful member of the Monroe City Council for 29 years. He was the county physician for 43 years and was affiliated with the Walton County Medical Center for 39 years and received numerous awards during his tenure. He was the first medical physician to receive the J. L. McGarity Citizenship Award for his community service.

Memorial services were held April 20 in the chapel of Meadows Funeral Home in Monroe.

He is survived by his wife, Betty K. Enslen of Monroe; daughter, Laura Enslen of Norcross; sons and daughter-in-law, Phillip Judkins Enslen III of Monroe and Charles Boswell and Lisa Marie Enslen of Maysville; brother, Allen Taylor Enslen of Wetumpka, Ala.; grandchildren, Charles Phillip Enslen and Audrey Maria Enslen, both of Maysville; and his faithful companion, Nuit.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Mews Centers Nursing Scholarship Fund, 621 N. Cherokee Rd., Social Circle, Ga. 30025 or to the First Christian Church of Monroe Building Fund, 150 Baker St., Monroe, Ga. 30655.
