Son of John Fripp Chaplin (1802-1876) and Ann Rebecca Fripp (1804-1855), he served with the Beaufort Volunteer Artillery, Stuart's Company during the War Between the States.

He married Ella Corine Fripp (1855-1886) and they had 2 children.

He next married Nellie Fripp (1849-1890), Ella's sister; they had no children.

On September 15, 1892 he married Helen Flora Wallis and they had 3 children.

Albert was Superintendent of what the 1900 Census refers to as the Bethesda Orphan Asylum for many years - from before the 1880 Census until after the 1910 Census.
