During World War I, Private Cash Adkins served in Company "M" of the 61st Infantry Regiment of the U. S. Army with the American Expeditionary Force (A. E. F.) in France. Two months after having returned to the United States from France on July 20, 1919, aboard the Steamship "Aquitania", Cash Adkins on September 24, 1919, in Butler County, Ohio, wed Addie Frances Durham (1891-1955), daughter of James W. Durham (1863–1933) and Mary L. (Baker) Durham (1870–1933), who had been born in Kentucky and had moved with their children to Butler County, Ohio. Together in Hamilton, seat of Butler County, Ohio, Cash Adkins and Addie Frances (Durham) Adkins raised two sons, Robert Adkins (1921–1933), who died at age eleven, and Leonard Adkins (1924-1963) who died in Columbus, Ohio, without having ever married.

Cash Adkins died at the age sixty=six on January 28, 1953, in Hamilton, seat of Butler County, Ohio, and was interred there on February 2, 1953, at Greenwood Cemetery in Section WW1 ("World War I"), Row 01, Grave 159. Two years and a day later on January 29, 1953, Addie Frances (Durham) Adkins died at the age of sixty-three in Hamilton, and was interred there at Greenwood Cemetery in Section W, Lot 462. Gravee 06.
