Died at her home in Muir Sunday May 6th, Mrs. Jay Olmsted, aged 63 years. She was ill but 8 days, death resulting from a stroke of paralysis.
Ellen M. Stone, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Darius Stone of Ionia township, was born in Orangeville, N.Y., November 23, 1842, moving to Ionia township when quite young. She was married to Jay Olmsted February 19, 1863, since which time they have lived on North Plains, beng among its most highly and respected citizens.
At the age of 14 years deceased united with the Christian Church, being baptized by Rev. Issac Errett, and for nearly 50 years was a faithful worker, performing every duty with a loyalty that knew no faltering.
Two son were born, Colonel J. Olmsted and Dorcus Olmsted, both of Salem, Oregon, the latter arriving home before his mother passed away.
The funeral was held at the home Wednesday afternoon, Rev. A.N. Cooper of the Muir Disciple Dhurch officiating. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ross, Miss Chase and Mrs. Jay Hayes furnished the music, with Miss Esther Newhouse as accompanist. The floral offerings were beautiful. The pall-bearers were Darius Stone, Bert Stone, Judson Stone, Orin, Stone, all nephews of deceased and Harry Knapp and Allie Knapp. Interment in North Plains.
