Alfred Joseph Aia, Jr., 55, of Upton, died Monday, September 4, 2006 after a long illness. "Big Al" was a professional musician who performed all over New England with his daughters, Lisa and Jenny. His band, Jenny and the Stoplites, won several awards, including Best Band in Massachusetts.

Mr. Aia was born in East Boston, the son of the late Alfred J. and Catherine (Vallen) Aia. He lived in Somerville before moving to Upton 30 years ago.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Joan Marie (Kelly) Aia. He also leaves four children, Lisa Marie Aia of Waterboro, ME, Michael Alfred Joseph Aia of Linwood, Michelle Aia Forgione of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, and Jennifer Rose Aia of Port Saint Lucie, FL; and three grandchildren, Calvin Michael Aia of Linwood, and Noah William and Makayla Louise Forgione of Palm Beach Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to VNA Care Hospice, 120 Thomas Street, Worcester 01608.
