Daniel was the son of Henry and Susanna (Bock) Koch. On October 24, 1839 he married Mary Ann Beck. Daniel fought in the Civil War, enrolling at Tamaqua in Company E of the 27th Infantry. In civilian life he served as the first president of the new borough of Fleetwood.
