He was born in Terrell, Texas, and grew up in Ennis, Texas. He received a Mechanical Engineering Degree from North Texas Agricultural College in 1943. After college he went on to serve with the US Marine Corps in the Pacific during WWII. After discharge, Garnett worked for the Southern Pacific RR for 5 years, then joined Chance Vought Aircraft Company (now Lockheed Martin) in Grand Prairie, Texas. Garnett worked as an engineer for almost 40 years for Chance Vought / Lockheed Martin. Garnett retired while working in Lancaster, CA. Garnett loved to garden, can foods, golf, swim, and go fishing.
Garnett was preceded in death by his first wife, Sidna Jo, his parents, Earl and Nettie Andrews, and his sister, Dorothy Gordon.
He is survived by his second wife Lola of Phoenix, a son, Lynn Andrews of Omaha, Nebraska, 3 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Garnett will be dearly missed by Lola's children: Connie Becker, Patricia Hampton, Dawn Anderson, Tim W. Anderson (Kathleen), ten grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at the Tempe Church of Christ on Mill Avenue in Tempe, AZ at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 7, 2014.
Interment will follow in Ennis, TX.
Arrangements are being handled by Angels Cremation & Burial, Mesa, Arizona.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Garnett's name to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America.
