Brooklet, Ga. - Mrs. Martha Bell Southwell, age 76, died Tuesday in her home under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice, following an extended illness. The native of Daisy, Ga., lived most of her life in Bulloch County. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening and putting up vegetables. She made the best cakes in the county. Mrs. Southwell was a member of the Emit Grove Baptist Church, where she was a member of the WMU. She was always willing to furnish food for any church occasion and for years was the smiling face behind VBS snacks. She was a past president of the Bulloch County Homemakers Club. Mrs. Southwell was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Allie Bell of Brooklet; a brother, James Bell, and granddaughter, Kalyn Hagan.

Surviving are her husband of 56 years, Curtis L. Southwell of Brooklet; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Kenneth R. Southwell, William and Carol Southwell and Robert and Amy Southwell, all of Brooklet; a daughter and son-in-law, Marsha and Greg Hagan of Statesboro; eight grandchildren and a sister, Gloria Hoch of Brooklet.

The graveside service and burial will be Thursday at 10 a.m. in the Brooklet City Cemetery with the Rev. Tim Huffingham officiating. Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home of Statesboro is in charge of arrangements.
