David Springer Sterett, a native of Cedarville, Ohio, who had been a resident of Warren and Henderson counties ever since he was 21 years of age, died at the home of his son William near Biggsville July 29, 1909, aged nearly 79 years. He came to Illinois about 1852, and for many years lived near Sugar Tree Grove, and later near Biggsville. In August of 1862 he enlisted at Monmouth in the Eighty-third Illinois infantry, and served his country for three years in the Civil war. In 1854 he married Miss Eliza Duncan of Kirkwood, and to this union were born five children, two of whom survived him with his wife. He was for some times a member of the Sugar Tree Grove United Presbyterian church and after 1896 he had his membership in the Biggsville church. His funeral was held at the Biggsville church, with Rev. S.J. Kyle in charge, assisted by Rev. Andrew Renwick of South Henderson and Rev. Mr. Gimson, pastor of the Biggsville Methodist church. The services at the grave were conducted by members of the George Crook post of the G.A.R. of Kirkwood.
