LE MARS, Iowa -- Ronald M. Bock, 78, of Le Mars passed away Friday, Nov. 26, 2010, at his home.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at St. John Lutheran Church in Merrill, Iowa, with the Revs. Sarah and Joel Nye officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery at Merrill. Visitation will begin 2 p.m. today, with the family present 5 to 8 p.m., and a 7 p.m. prayer service, at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home of Le Mars. There will also be one hour of visitation prior to the services Monday at the church. Stories, memories and expressions of sympathy may be directed through www.mauerjohnsonfh.com.

Ronald Marcel Bock was born on March 3, 1932, in Merrill, Iowa, the son of Clarence and Irene (Marx) Bock. He attended Hinton High School, graduating in 1951. Following high school, Ronald "Corky" began his 43-year career with Plymouth County. He started as a maintainer operator on secondary roads and was later promoted to superintendent of secondary roads.

On Oct. 14, 1956, Ronald and Dorothy Hughes were united in marriage at Vermillion, S.D. The couple made their home in Merrill. He and Dorothy moved to Le Mars in 1979. Ronald retired from Plymouth County in 1994.

He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Merrill, where he had served on church council. He also served on the Merrill City Council. Ron and Dorothy enjoyed spending winters in Punta Gordo, Fla., and Mission, Texas. He enjoyed fishing and woodworking. Ron built dollhouses for his granddaughters and barns for his grandsons. He also repaired numerous bicycles for anyone that needed help.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 54 years, Dorothy of Le Mars; his children and their spouses, Stanley and Candace Bock of Sioux City, Ronda and Tom Armstrong of Abilene, Texas, Gordon and Tammy Bock of Le Mars, and David and Julie Bock of West Jordan, Utah; 11 grandchildren, Amy and Andrew Bock, Ryan and Brandi Olson, Rick Olson, Dori Armstrong, Randy and Amber Bock, Sarah Bock, Danielle Bock, Mindy Bock, Ashlee Audis and Autumn Lauritsen; eight great-grandchildren, Paige and Payton Olson, Reese, Brenna and Brooklyn Bock, Connor Bock, Lilly Mae Bock and Cambria Audis; a brother and his wife, Merlin and Donna Bock of Tracy, Minn.; a sister-in-law, LaDonne Bock of Eau Claire, Wis.; and a brother-in-law Everett Bollmeyer of Hinton, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents and their spouses, Clarence and Ida Bock and Irene and Frank Markovich; a great-granddaughter, Makayla Bock; a sister, Betty Bollmeyer; and a brother, Kenneth Bock.
