Rossa Marasco Palleschi, 88, passed away on Sunday, November 21, 2010, with her loved by her side, while residing at The Masonic Care Community in the Amhearst/Monroe Community.
Rose was born the eighth of ten children to Philippe and Rosina (Gigliotti) Marasco in the old family homestead at 713 Jay St., Utica, NY on February 10, 1922. Rose attended St. Mary of Mt. Carmel elementary school and was among the 1st four year graduating class of T.R. Proctor High School, an acknowledgement she was proud of. Rose grew up and lived on Jay St. for 60+ years of her life, an area of Utica that was bustling with Italian immigrants. She treasured the old homestead, it's neighborhood and especially her neighbors who were extended family to Rossa. Being one of ten children; five boys and five girls, Rose learned from her parents the value of frugality. Her Papa nicknamed her "Rossa P'tossa" a name that followed her throughout her life. She always spoke affectionately of her parents as well as each of her siblings. She enjoyed their companionship, hijinks, and always knew that there was never a harsh word spoken between them. She re-lived those precious memories of her siblings and the fun they had growing up over and over again, especially in the later years. As so many of her day, Rose walked to Proctor High School each and every day, through the best and worst of weather conditions. While walking to school she was frequently surpassed and teased by a neighbor and fellow student; Peter P. Palleschi. Through the encouragement of siblings, Rose eventually met the neighbor, courted, and finally wed. On October 20th, 1945; Peter P. Palleschi & Rose M. Marasco were joined in marriage; only after Peter served his term as a US Marine in WWII. This union endured for 55+ years until Peters' passing in 2001. From this union they were blessed with three children; Louisa Ann, Peter Anthony, and Ann Marie. Their relationship was built on much love, respect, and old fashion values; traits they passed on to their children.
Rossa lived her life full of laughter and joy, even through all the family hardships that she endured. At one time Rossa was employed by Sturdy Togs and for 20+ years in the kitchens at Brandegee, Wetmore, and Proctor High School of the Utica City School District. She enjoyed cooking and feeding anyone who was hungry including the students. Singing was always one of Rossa's enjoyments while cooking, cleaning, or just being at home. Rossa was an exceptionally artistic person, being able to create things from virtually nothing, a talent she passed on to her children and grandchildren. Her home was always decorated "just so" and who could forget those beautiful dresses she just "whipped up" without a pattern and from a few yards of cloth. Her hands were truly gifted.
The physical challenges that faced Rossa for the last 20 years were a true test to her strength and sheer will to live. She endeared through all the pain and suffering and never lost her faith. She was devoted to the Blessed Virgin Mary and a communicant of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church. She was a member of the St. Anne's Society, Altar Rosary Society, Christ Child Society, and was always committed to the annual church Festival dedicated to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel.
Rossa leaves behind her three children; her devoted daughter with whom she previously resided Louise A. and James Altamuro, Utica, NY; Peter A. Palleschi of Hagerstown, MD; and Ann Marie & Mark C. Vallese of Frankfort, NY. Eight grandchildren; Gabriel J. and Kristina Altamuro, Peter P. Palleschi, Tiffani and Jamie Temple , Nicholas S. Palleschi and fiancé, Joslyn Smathers, , Maria R. Vallese, and Christina R. Vallese and Valentina and Andrew Palleschi. Great grandchildren; Gabriel and Mathew Altamuro, Tanner Metoyer and Sophia Temple. Rose leaves numerous nieces and nephews, especially acknowledging Marilyn Cimino, Rose Wileczka, and Roseanne Eanniello who visited Rose regularly as well as her special cousin Angie Shaw and her late and best friend Julie Garramone and a brother in law Louie Eanniello and sister-in-law Elvira Morris. Rossa was predeceased by her five brothers: Joseph, Charles, Philip, Bobby, and Ernie Marasco, and four sisters, Antoinette Marasco, Mary Grasso, Anna Marasco, and Angeline Eanniello. Her affection for these siblings was immeasurable. Rose also leaves behind a sister-in-law Yetta Massa, and was pre-deceased by three nephews, Philip Marasco, Louis Eanniello, and Anthony (To-To) Eanniello, as well as her daughter-in-law Darlene L.(Tuescher) Palleschi.

As well as the appreciation extended to the Doctors of CNY Cardiology for their commitment and support to Rose, even in the worst of times.
