Tommy Barnette, 74, of Brasstown Road died November 14, 2010. Born in Jackson County he was the son of the late William Harley and Mary Etta Rabb Barnette. He was preceded in death by his 1st wife, Frances Hall Barnette in 1995; brothers, W.H. "Bug" Barnette, Charles Barnette, Bill Bryson, Gerald Bryson, Aldan Bryson; sisters, Edna Mae Sherrill and Hazel Ducan. Tommy was an Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict and a member of Balsam Grove Freewill Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Bessie (Beck) Moore, two daughters, Michelle Pitts and husband, David if Canton, NC, Deborah Christopher all of Canton, NC; step-daughter, Debbie Buchanan and husband, John of Cullowhee, NC; one son, Tommy Gary Barnett of Spartanburg, SC; one brother, Sammy Barnette of Waynesville, NC; nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, November 17, 2010 in the chapel of Melton Funeral Home, with Reverend Carl Chastain and Reverend Clifford Willis officiating. Burial will be at Balsam Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday, November 16 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Balsam Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 105 Heavenly Road, Balsam, NC 28707 or Brasstown Cemetery Fund, 1880 Brasstown Rd. Cullowhee, NC 28723.
