Garret Barry was born February 27, 1842, in Cork county, Ireland, and came to America when five years of age. His father and one sister died on the way over and were buried near Quebec and the young boy and his mother and sister came alone to make their home in the new country. They settled in Massachusetts but later came west into Iowa in 1852. Then in 1857 they moved to Minnesota and settled on a farm at Newry in Freeborn county. This farm was Mr. Barry's home for over sixty years. In 1920 he moved to Austin which was his home for the past five years.

January 29, 1871 he was married to Miss Mary Keefe of Newry. To them were born eight children, three of whom died in their youth. The surviving children are John of Albert Lea, Edward of Bejou, William of Minneapolis, Adelbert and Gerald of Austin. There are eleven grandchildren.

Mr. Barry was a kind and loving husband and father and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He always enjoyed the best of health until the last six months of his life. His death which occurred Wednesday morning was caused by heart trouble.

The funeral will be held at St Augustine's church Friday morning at 9 o'clock. Interment will be made in St. Mary's cemetery at Newry.
