James J. Murphy Dies; Was Wean Retiree

Canfield – James J. Murphy, 70, of 3271 S. Canfield-Niles Road, died of cancer at 1:35 a.m. today in North Side Hospital after a five-month illness.
Mr. Murphy was born March 15, 1908, in Youngstown, a son of James and Margaret Richards Murphy, and retired eight years ago from Wean United Engineering after 43 years. He was a member of St. Patrick Church and Knights of Columbus 2935. He served in the Aleutian Islands during World War 2.
He leaves two sons, James of Hubbard and Thomas of Youngstown; two daughters, Mrs. Dolores Wellington of Youngstown and Mrs. Eileen Slavin of Simi Valley, Calif.; a brother, Edward of Youngstown; two sisters, Elizabeth Murphy of Austintown and Mrs. Margaret Leonhart, with whom he made his home; 13 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in the church. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Fox Funeral Home.
