Phyllis Maeann Gackstetter was born May 5, 1931 at St. Paul, Minnesota, the daughter of Marion Gackstetter. As a young firl she moved to Willmar where she attended school until 1941 when she moved to St. Paul, Minnesota graduating from Murray High School in 1948.
On January 1, 1949, Phyllis was united in marriage to William P. Larcom at Willmar, Minnesota by Rev. Clifford Channer. This union was blessed with nine children. They lived in Willmar until 1958 when they moved to Spicer, Minnesota.
She was baptized on February 1, 1942 and was a member of Hope United Presbyterian Church at the time of her death. She was active with the Hope Presbyterian Women and the Church Circles.
The family remembers her concern for others and helping to support orphan children knowing from her own life how much the help is appreciated. They also recall her great cooking and baking,especially her homemade chocolate cake, and how Phyllis always had a big celebration at her home in March for Bill's birthday.
On Wednesday, January 23, 1991 Phyllis died at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar, Minnesota at the age of 59 years. Surviving are her husband, William P. Larcom Sr., and her sons and their wives. Mitchell and Becky of New London, MN and Timothy and Cindy of St. Cloud, MN; and nine grandchildren. Also surviving are her brothers; Carroll Gackstetter of St. Paul, MN, and Harold (Dooley) Gackstetter of Bemidji, MN; and her foster parents , Mrs. Agnes Groskopf of Hastings, MN and Mr. and Mrs. Andy Burekhard of St. Paul, MN.
She was preceded in death by her four sons; William P. Jr., Stephen Mark, Rodney Scott, and Mark Daniel; three daughters; Kathlyn Carol, Shelia Rena, and Dawn Marie and one brother, Phillip Gackstetter and her mother Marion Gackstetter, who died at Phyllis' birth.
