John Kerstetter in his lifetime was a highly esteemed resident of Penn township where he was born 11/13/1813. His family were among the early settlers of Lykens Valley Northumberland County Pa. His father Leonard Kerstetter was born there 2/17/1783 & he married Elizabeth Schrecengost. He came to Haines township in 1800.
On 3/30/1835 John Kerstetter married Miss Annie Musser. Her father was Jacob Musser.
For 2 years after his marriage John lived with his father on the homestead but in 1837 moved to his own farm. Mrs. Kerstetter was a devout Christian lady & a consistent member of the Lutheran Church. She died on 6/17/1891.
They were the parents of the following children: Michael who resides in Pleasant Gap, Jacob lives in Coburn, Rebecca married John Brant of Penn township, Harriet is the wife of Daniel Hosterman of Penn township, William who died in that township, Emmanuel is a farmer there John who is a skilled carpenter & contractor lives in Millheim & Daniel resides in Penn township.
Mr. Kerstetter did much hard work in his day & was a well-preserved man. In politics he was a Democrat. He served as overseer of the poor & school director & was a member of the Lutheran Church.
