Raymond was born on Jan. 5, 1921, in Cullom, a son of Lester and Millie Flessner Attig. He married Dorothy Mies in Pontiac on Sept. 2, 1944.
Raymond was a graduate of Cullom High School and the University of Illinois and attended Columbia Midshipman's School. He was a U.S. Navy World War II veteran, and served in the South Pacific. After returning from World War II he served in the U.S. Naval Reserve and attended University of Illinois graduate school.
Raymond was a teacher and coach at Pontiac Township High School, an insurance claims specialist for Country Mutual for 38 years, and an Illinois High School Association football official. He officiated 300 high school sports games for 25 years, and was recognized as an honorary official with the Illinois High School Association.
Raymond was a member of the Phi Kappa Sigma Fraternity; the Pontiac Elks Club; the American Legion; and a former member of the VFW. He was also a member of the First United Methodist Church in Pontiac.
