Vineyardist Tamagni will be remembered for his love of outdoors
Descendant of pioneer family dies suddenly

Ted Tamagni liked John Wayne movies, hunting, and working in his vineyard. He was leaving in June to hunt big game in Africa before he died suddenly at his home at age 57 from an aneurysm. Tamagni, born to Ted and Carolyn Tamagni on March 24, 1934 in Calistoga, was the Sealer of Weights and Measures of Napa County.

Descendant of a pioneer family that settled first in Knights Valley and then near town off the Silverado Trail, Tamagni was an avid sportsman and taxidermy hobbyist.

He bought part of the old Tamagni dairy ranch in 1977 and planted 45 acres of vineyards in Zinfandel, Merlot and Chardonnay. Working for the county by day, Tamagni worked in his vineyard 'til darkness drove him inside at the end of the day.

Hunting, taxidermy and vineyards, "that was his life," says son Ted Tamagni, who accompanied his dad on his hunting trips.

He is survived by his longtime companion Frances Goodwin as well as his mother Carolyn Tamagni, son and daughter-in-law Ted and Judy Tamagni and grandchildren Jason and Jessica Tamagni, all of Calistoga, his daughter and son-in-law Teirey and George Tagliaferri of St. Helena; his sister Nancy Taamagni of Santa Rosa; and nieces Connie Blue of Santa Rosa and Pam Anderson of Pacheo.

He was past master of Calistoga Masonic Lodge No. 233 and member of the California Agricultural Commissioners Seals Association.

Memorial services were conducted by the Masons Lodge of Calistoga at the Community Presbyterian Church on Sunday.

Donations to a charity or organization of the donor's choice are preferred by the family.
