Death Summons
Frank U. Pursell

Frank U. Pursell passed away quietly at about a quarter of six o'clock Thursday morning at his home on South H Street in Tulare. He was born at Honey Lake, Lassen County, California, on Dec. 8, 1865. When he was about two years of age his family moved with him to Hanford while it was still in Tulare County. He resided there for some time, later going to San Diego, but returning in 1881 to Tulare County where his father, James Pursell, homesteaded near Waukena.

He married Rosalie Ann Wirth on Dec. 25, 1889 and built a home one mile south of what is now the Waukena Station. He lived there until the summer of 1911. He was active in all constructive community affairs there and was especially faithfull to the little Methodist Church at Waukena.

During the 20 years on the homestead south of Waukena he farmed intermittently, but found it necessary to follow well drilling in order to increase the income needed to care for an over growing family. During those years nine children, four girls and five boys, came to his home.

In 1911 Mr. Pursell moved with his family to Gardena, near Los Angeles, where he resided until 1914 doing contract team work. Much of the street grading in the new town of El Segundo was done by him.

In 1914 he returned to Tulare County, farming for a time near Woodville, but finally making his home at Strathmore, where the younger children of the family finished grammar and high school.

In 1927 he again moved to Los Angeles so that the young children might live at home while attending college, and lived near the campus of U.S.C.

In 1934 he returned to Tulare County with Mrs. Pursell and

took up his residence at 709 South H Street, where he was at the time of his passing. He loved the San Joaquin Valley and especially this part of it. He is survived by his widow; by his children, A.L. Pursell and Mrs. Carl Peterson of Tulare, Mrs. J.S. Nagel of Woodville, Mrs. Blan Whitaker of San Leandro, Carroll W. Pursell of Woodlake, James L. Pursell of Hermosa Beach, Robert R. Pursell of Alhambra and Frank J. Pursell of Whittier; and by a brother, T.A. Pursell of Riverside, and four sisters, Inez Meeker of Woodland, Adeline Bailey of Pittsburg, Caroline Barber of Tulare, and Eva Pursell of Los Angeles. One child, Gertrude Pursell, late of Los Angeles, preceded him beyond last summer.

Mr. Pursell leaves a host of friends in this community mourning his passing.

The funeral services will be held in this city at 2:30 o'clock Saturday afternoon from the Gobel Chapel, with Rev. Arthur H. Wallace of the Tulare First Methodist Church officiating.
