Ezra was born on November 28, 1924 in Wathena, Kansas to Ezra, Sr. and Elizabeth (Benitz) Shields. He was a farmer and lifelong resident of Wathena.

Ezra was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in St. Joseph, Missouri.

He married Phyllis Jacks on October 29, 1945 in Wathena. She preceded him in death on May 3, 2003. Ezra was also preceded by his parents and a grandchild, Megan Foley. Survivors include: son, Randall Shields of St. Louis, Missouri daughters; Jan (Darwin) Karsten of Eureka, Missouri Kristin (Michael) Foley of Waco, Nebraska 10 grandchildren 13 great-grandchildren sister, Beulah Boeh of Wathena, Kansas 1 niece and 1 nephew

Funeral: 11:00 A.M. Monday, November 29, 2010 at: St. Pauls Lutheran Church 4715 Frederick Avenue St. Joseph, Missouri There will be a private family burial at the Memorial Park Cemetery in St. Joseph, Missouri prior to services.
