Esperanza Garber, 95, Pierre, died Monday, Dec. 2, 2002, at her home in Pierre.
Her funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at Oahe Presbyterian Church in Pierre. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Blunt.
Feigum Funeral Home of Pierre is in charge of arrangements.
Esperanza Isabella Miles was born to John and Isabella (Howard) Miles on March 9, 1907, at home in Summit Township in Sully County. She was the youngest of 10 children.
Esperanza was united in marriage with Daniel Garber on Dec. 22, 1925, in Onida. They spent most of their married life farming and ranching in Hughes county. When Dan retired, they moved to Pierre.
Essie was an active member of Oahe Presbyterian Church, the Senior Citizens Center and Extension Club. She loved playing cards with her special friends, cooking, crocheting and attending family gatherings. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother.
Essie is survived by her children, Una and Alfred Flansburg of Ogallala, Neb., Gladys Maberry of Pierre, Vivian Smalley of Pierre, Danna and Virgil Mercer of Blunt, Pat Wendt of Sioux Falls, Bennie and Claudia Garber of Big Stone city, Gary and Gayle Garber of Fort Pierre, and Connie Van Bockern of Rapid city; 18 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel; her parents; nine brothers and sisters; a grandson, Kenton Maberry; two sons-in-law, James Maberry and Miles Smalley; and a daughter-in-law, Buena Sutton Garber
