NOTES:
1) The WASON surname is also frequently spelled "WASSON," and "WARSON" in various U.S. Census, Military, and other source documents (helpful to know when researching this family line).

2) The birth information is still being researched, as it comes from an old Bible inscription by the Michigan Daughters of the American Revolution in 1941 (SEE PHOTO AT LEFT). It shows Johnson's birthdate (shown above) and his birthplace as Corinth, Saratoga, New York. His birthplace could be Corinth, Orange, Vermont, since that is where Johnson's father was born and some genealogy histories and trees have indicated.

3) Still researching burial records for Johnson's wife, Amorette (aka Emerett, Emeret) Sleeper, unable to locate her burial site in the Mountain Home Cemetery or anywhere in Michigan, although the Michigan Death Register shows she died 06 Jul 1892 in Otsego, Allegan, Michigan, USA.

=================================

Johnson Wason is the first-born of eight children and at the age of 44, married with five children, he joined the Union Army at Otsego, Michigan, early in The War Between the States (U.S. Civil War). Enlisting in August of 1861, Johnson served as a musician (fifer) in the Michigan 6th Regiment, Company G – a.k.a. "Little John Lightguard, of Allegan."

The 6th Regiment was organized at Kalamazoo and officially mustered 20 Aug 1861 – the same date Johnson enlisted. While the 6th expected to become part of the Army of the Potomac, General Banks -- due to it's "valuable and faithful service" – assigned it to Heavy Artillery. Johnson served under Colonel Frederick W. Curtenius of Kalamazoo and through Company G, under Captain Chauncey J. Bassett, Allegan, 1st Lieutenant Henry Stark, Otsego, and 2nd Lieutenant Alfred C.
