She was born on Oct. 11, 1905, in Wilkin County, near Rothsay, the daughter of Conrad and Bertha (Meyer) Wasmuth. In 1912, the family moved to Fergus Falls, where she attended public school and graduated from high school in 1924. In August of 1924, she accepted a position as a stenographer-bookkeeper at the Red River Milling Company where she worked until 1945. Moving to Fargo she worked at Luger Furniture Store and later in the business office at North Dakota State University until her retirement in 1972, completing 48 years as an office worker.
She was a life-long member of the Evangelical Church which later joined with the United Brethren and then the United Methodist Church. She was the church pianist for 25 years, a Sunday school teacher, and active in women’s organizations.
Her interests were sewing, needlepoint, crocheting, memorizing poetry, and daily practice on her piano and organ. Music was her delight and she enjoyed playing piano duets with her sister until the last few months. One of her greatest pleasures was traveling with family members, covering most of the 50 states and parts of Europe.
Survivors include a sister, Selma Johnson; a nephew, Arn (Bonnaveve) Johnson; a grand-niece, Kristi Johnson; a grand-nephew, Paul (Amie) Johnson; and two great-grand-nieces, Samantha and Kara.
Private family services are planned at a later date.
