JAS. PARCELLS DIES HERE AT THE AGE OF 82

James Parcells, a resident of Kirksville for the past 20 years, and a well-known character of the city, died last night at 10 o'clock in his room at the Florence Hotel, aged 82 years, after a life which had seen more ups and downs than most and which ranged from wealth and luxury at one period to bitter poverty at the end. Funeral arrangements were in the hands of friends who saw that the aged man's body received decent burial. The services were held this afternoon in the Davis & Wilson chapel.

Mr. Parcells was born in Kentucky in 1833, and was the youngest brother of the late W.H. Parcells, one of the real big men of North Missouri in his time. In his early life he was in the mercantile and banking business at Charleston, Ill., and later he and his brother Robert were in the banking and mining business in Denver. He was married to a St. Louis girl and they had one son. The wife and son died many years ago. During his residence in St. Louis he was one of the large stockholders in the Southern Hotel and owned a third interest in the Parcells, Waldron & Jordan shoe factory. He traveled extensively in Europe and lived several months in Australia, South America, Africa and other countries. His home was one of the finest in St. Louis.

Little need be said of his life since this happier period, save as a lesson to young men, and that cards caused his downfall. He was affectionately known as "Uncle Jimmie" by a large number of Kirksville people, who will miss the familiar figure tapping along with his cane on the streets.
