Chico Daily Record, Friday Morning, September 14, 1906, pg 4 col 6: Long Suffering of Mrs. Walker Ended. Mrs. Josephine E. Walker, one of the old residents of this city and an early pioneer of the State, died at her home in Chico Vecino last evening, at the age of 65 years, after an illness extending over a period of six month, following a severe attack of grippe. While still weak from the attack the San Francisco calamity occurred, and several of the sons being at that point her worry as to their safety caused prostration of which she did not recover.

Mrs. Walker was a native of Springfield, Maine, her maiden name being Guptil. In 1852 she was united in marriage to S.L. Walker and very shortly after the young couple started for California by way of the Isthmus. They first went to Nevada county and subsequently were residents for a number of years of Wheatland. They came to Chico during 1878 and made their permanent home, living on what is now Pomona avenue, up to recent years. Mr. Walker was, up to the time of his death some ten years ago, a deacon in the local Baptist Church, and Mrs. Walker was also a communicant of and earnest worker in the same congregation.

She was the mother of eight children, seven of whom survive to mourn her passing: Fred, George, William, Henry and Harold of Chico, Frank Walker, now a resident of Alturas, Modoc county, and Chester Walker of San Francisco.

No arrangements for the funeral have yet been made, awaiting arrival of Frank Walker, who has been notified.
