Alexander Wilson Jr's marker in Greenwood Cemetery, shown in the attached photo, is a replacement marker, and both dates on it are incorrect. Until actual records became available, Alexander Jr's father, Alexander Sr, was believed to have been born in Scotland in 1735. It is now known he was born in 1740. His son, Alexander Jr, was born in 1764 in New York City. Alexander Jr died in 1848 in the Town of Wilson, Niagara County, NY, on the farm on Slash (now Maple) Road owned by his son, William Armour Wilson. It appears that the eroded "4" on the original marker was misread as a "1." This is a common problem resulting from the fact that the side downstroke turning a "1" into a "4" is not as deep and frequently erodes faster than the main part of the digit.

Alexander Wilson Jr studied in New York City to be a Presbyterian minister. However, after he married Eunice Charlotte Seeley, who was a member of the Religious Society of Friends, he read her books, was convinced to Quakerism, and became a Quaker minister.

Alexander's older son, Stephen Melvin Wilson, moved to Niagara County, NY, early. Alexander and the rest of his family remained in Saratoga County, NY, until the entire family moved to Niagara County, NY, around 1835.

Alexander Wilson Jr is sometimes confused with Alexander Wilson, the son of Reuben Wilson. Both Alexanders are buried in Greenwood Cemetery.
