Parents: John and Catherine Carbaugh Cauffman, per death certificate #94065.Adam J. Kauffman, oldest resident of Mont Alto, died at his home there Friday at 5:45 p.m. after a two weeks' illness with general infirmities, aged 86 years and seven months. He was a life long resident of Mont Alto, being one of the iron workers and miners of the old Mont Alto Iron Co. He was a Civil War veteran and a member of the Lutheran Church. He was employed a number of years in Waynesboro at the Landis Tool Co. and Landis Machine Co. shops. Mr. Kauffman was born at New Baltimore, a son of John and Catharine Carbaugh Kauffman. Surviving are these sons and daughters: John H. Kauffman, Mrs. William Johnson and Mrs. Earl Hockersmith, all of Waynesboro; Solomon Kauffman, Fayetteville; William, in the West. Two sisters, Mrs. Anna Kepner and Mrs. Clayton Carbaugh, New Baltimore. 32 grandchildren, and 22 great grandchildren also survive. The funeral will be held Monday, leaving the late home at 2 p.m. for Mt. Zion Church, where services will be held, in charge of Rev. Harry Compton and Mrs. Grace Sponseller. Interment will be made in Mt. Zion Cemetery.
