William Brocklesby was born in Lincolnshire, England in 1826 and reportedly came to America when a young adult with one or two brothers who may have returned to England.

William married Mrs. Elizabeth (McCaw) Hooper, a widow with one child, a daughter, Ellen, on 17 March 1859 in Rock Island County, Illinois. (Name on marriage record spelled BROCKELBY).

William and Elizabeth had the following children: Sarah Ann, Emma Almira, William H., Edward James and Mary Ann (aka Mame ) Brocklesby. William's Newspaper obituary indicates there was a child who died in infancy.

The Gravestone is a 3 sided stone with William, his wife, Elizabeth and their son , William H, on the same marker. William (the father) suffered from heart disease and died of Heart Failure.

On Dec 21, 1892, William married Mrs. Laura Rand, widow of Joseph Faro Richard Rand. There is some confusion as to her maiden name as several records have shown her name as Laura Smith. She died Dec 21, 1897 from cancer of the stomach (per Newspaper article). Laura is the mother of Mary Grace Rand who married William's son, Edward James Brocklesby.

Note to Researchers: Just a word of caution easy to confuse the William and Elizabeth's - There are several William Brocklesby's with wife named Elizabeth. Some were married in England, and of course, this William Brocklesby and wife Elizabeth were married in Rock Island County, Illinois.
