It is believed that Sarah F. Clay Phillips is buried near her husband, though no stone has been found. For many years we have believed that the maiden name of the wife of Trenton Combs Phillips was Sarah Harris. It has now been discovered that Sarah was the daughter of Soloman Clay and Lou Ann Boatman. She was living in the household of her stepfather Manning Harris.

Who's who in the 1860 census:
In the 1860 Clinton, Texas County, Missouri census we find Sarah F. Harris 13 years old living in the Praton Day household. Sarah's mother is Lewan Harris 29 in that same household. It helps to determine who Sarah was if you know how all these folks in the house relate to each other. Sarah F. Harris has a sister named Nancy A Harris 15. They are the daughters of "Lewan" Harris who was born Lou Ann Boatman. At the time of this census Lou Ann is married to Manning Harris 35. Lou Ann and Manning have had four children together. Three of them are listed in this household: Thomas J. 7 (Thomas Jefferson Harris), Agnes 4 (Agnes Louann Harris), and Mary C. 10/12 (Mary Caroline Harris). Their daughter Martha Harris died in 1860 and is not listed here. The other Harris child listed, Lafayette 10 (Lafayette Morrow Bristow) is the son of Lou Ann with her second husband George Bristow who died in 1850. Agnes Day 40 is the sister of Lou Ann. Agnes married Praton Day 48 (Preston J. Day on 23 May 1835 in Macoupin, Illinois) and William Charles Day and James Levi Day are their children. Since Sarah was born before the marriages of LouAnn to George Bristow or to Manning Harris we had to keep looking to find that she is really Sarah F. Clay, who later took her stepfather's surname of Harris. I have read that Soloman Clay died in 1848 a year after Sarah was born but have not yet found documentation.
