Obituary appeared in the Hinton Daily News (Hinton, WV) on Tuesday, December 18, 1945:
John M. Ballengee, 72, former Summers County resident, died on Thursday morning at 4:00 o'clock in a Clarksburg hosptial following a critical illness of one week. Mr. Ballengee had been in ill health for the past five years and recently suffered a paralytic stroke.
Funeral services were conducted at the Davis and Young Funeral Parlors in Clarksburg, Friday evening at 7:30 o'clock. The boy was taken to Charleston for interment Saturday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock.
Mr. Ballengee has resided in Summers County until 15 years ago when he moved to Clarksburg and established himself as a merchant.
He was born March 12, 1873 and had been an active memember in the Methodist chruch for the past 50 years.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mrs. Anna Modora Cox, 18 years ago.
Survivors include his second wife, Mrs. Genevera Bates Earl Ballengee, and the following children by his first marriage: O.L.Ballengee of Covington, Va; Ira Ballengee of Hinton; B.G.Ballengee, US Navy, serving in Panama, Mrs. Arnold R. Buckland of Bellepoint, and Mrs. R.A. Meadows of Clarksburg.
