David Bohrer, 87, died Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at Prairie Village Care Home in Columbus, Nebraska.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, 2:30 p.m., October 8, 2016 at the Williams Funeral Home with the Rev. Audrey Beaty officiating. Interment with military graveside honors will be at the Riverton Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Friday, 8:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. and Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to service time.

David Lee Bohrer, the son of Josephine Maryetta (Stewart) and Francis Victor Bohrer, was born February 22, 1929 north of Riverton, Nebraska. He departed this life October 5, 2016 at Prairie Village in Columbus, Nebraska.

David grew up in the Riverton community and received his formal education attending the Riverton schools, graduating with the class of 1946. He worked for a period of time on a harvest crew, farmed and was employed with the railroad. On December 6, 1951 he entered the United States Marine Corp to serve his country. He was discharged on December 3, 1953. Following the completion of his military service he returned to the Riverton where he operated a service station. David then became his career as the rural mail carrier, retiring in 1987. In 2004, he moved to Hampton, Nebraska and then in 2012, he moved to Prairie Village at Columbus to live.

Through the years he was always actively involved in his community and was a member of the Riverton American Legion Post, the Riverton Fire Department and served on the Riverton Board of Education. He was also a member of the Rural Letter Carriers Association. David was gifted working with his hands and pursued a number of activities and interests in his spare time. For many years he was involved in drag racing with his sons and at one point he built a car to run in competitions. He enjoyed working with Heath Kits and created a number of electronics for his children. David was an excellent woodworker and made numerous heirlooms for his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed camping and bowling.

Preceding him in death were his parents; a daughter, Marietta Faye Bohrer; great granddaughter, Cheyenne Eckhardt; a sister, Betty Ruth Methe and brothers, Robert Edward Bohrer, Richard Lyle Bohrer, James Bohrer and Roderick Lewis Bohrer.

Left to treasure his memory are his children Faye Marie Bohrer of Hampton, Nebraska; David Nelson Bohrer of Omaha, Nebraska and Francis Victor Bohrer and wife Debra of Columbus, Nebraska; 8 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; sister, Linda Chartier of Hastings, Nebraska; brother, Francis Stewart Bohrer and wife Win of Omaha, Nebraska; sisters-in-law, Joan Bohrer of Red Cloud and Betty Bohrer of Doniphan; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
