Mrs. Nancy J. Manley,83, one of the eldest residents on the Wilson Creek Battlefield, was to be buried at the Manley cemetery at 1:30 o'clock this afternoon. The Manleys had lived on the battlefield site since 1867 and there raised a family of 10 children, six of whom still living. Besides taking an active part in the battleground reunions which, with intervals now and then, have been annually for half-a-century or more, Mrs Manley has welcomed hundreds of tourists and vistors to the site. She has been throughout all the years, also one of the sturdiest pillars of the little Wilson Creek Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and of late years it has been largely through her efforts that the church has continued to operate. For her pleasant, unassuming kindness and hospitality, Mrs Manley has grown to be loved by many, even among those who knew her but casually. She was born in Stone county Mo, daughter of Captain and Mrs. William A. Carr; was married to John T Manley in 1864. The sons and daughters surviving her are Mrs. N.J. Lindsey of Springfield; W.C., R.C. and J.C. Manley and Miss Etta Manley, and Mrs F.E. Short, all of Republic, Mo.
Mrs Manley died at Republic Thursday, after an illness resulting from a fall suffered several weeks ago. The Reverend E.W. Johnson of the Cumberland Presbyterian church
here was to officiate the burial service.
