Death Claims Mrs. Chas. Werling, Mrs. Jesse Cox

Estherville was saddened this week by the passing of two of its beloved women, Mrs. Chas. Werling and Mrs. Jesse Cox, both long time residents of the city. Mrs. Werling's death Saturday [September 1, 1934] night was not unexpected as she has been a sufferer with cancer for several years and confined to her bed for nearly a year.

Mrs. Werling, whose maiden name was Anna Dowling had lived in Estherville for 38 years. She was born Jan. 26, 1868 at Seymore, Ind. She is survived by her husband, one brother, William Downing of Breckenridge, Minn., and a sister Mrs. Edna Darling of St. Louis, Mo. The brother was in Estherville to attend the funeral services which were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the home on East Main. Pallbearers were Dr. B. T. Osher, Dr. H. L. McMillan, G. H. Raife, Jay Howard, L. H. Duesterhoeft and Joe Orvis. Interment was made in Oak Hill cemetery. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, September 6, 1934)

Funeral Services for Mrs. Chas. Werling Held Here Yesterday
After years of illness Mrs. Charles Werling passed away at her home on East Main street. Mrs. Werling has been seriously ill for the past six months and it seemed to be only a question of time when the end came for that period.

Mrs. Werling was born in Seymore, Ind., January 26, 1868. She came here with her husband, who has been a contractor here for many years.

The funeral services were held from the home on Tuesday afternoon, the Rev. Arthur Bailey officiating. Interment was made in Oak Hill cemetery. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, September 5, 1934)
