Robert grew up in Lakewood, the youngest of five children. He graduated Lakewood High School & Hiram College, where he met his wife. Following his service in the Philippines and as part of the occupation forces in Japan in World War II, they moved to Hiram.

Electronics were his vocation and avocation. As a youth, he built radios in an attic workshop. He worked for the Hiram Municipal Power Plant, the Portage County Library (as a bookmobile driver), for Hughes Electronics (in California), and for Clevite Corp in Cleveland, Ohio. He taught the electronics & radio merit badges for Boy Scouts in Hiram. He was a member of the Hiram Volunteer Fire department & a member of Hiram Christian Church where he served as a deacon & an elder.

He died in Robinson Memorial Hospital following a tractor accident at his home in Hiram. He is survived by 2 sons, 4 daughters and a foster son, and 2 grand-children.
