Herman Uhl, a Schlegel relative, said that her last name in English would have been Kraeuter. He also said that her birthday date was 10 June 1816 in Asslar, Germany. No Krauter was born on 9 June 1817 in Asslar according to him.
Magdalena Schlegel died at the home of her son in Mequon on Saturday evening. Mrs. Magdalena Schlegel, at the age of 80 years after a short illness, departed from this earth. The deceased was born in Asslar, province of Prussia, Germany, in the year 1817, and came with her husband to America in 1854, settling on the farm in Town of Mequon now owned by her son Phillip, and where they resided since. Her husband died about 11 years ago. Five children, 2 sons and 3 daughters survive her. The funeral took place Tuesday afternoon and was largely attended. Rev. E. G. Strassburger performing the last sad rites at the grave.
