Obituary
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 3, 2008 at a 1:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Lafayette for Lawrence Acosta, Jr., age 65, who passed away Thursday, May 1, 2008 at 3:45 a.m. at his residence in Lafayette.

Interment will be in Evangeline Memorial Gardens in Carencro. The Rev. Martin Borcherding, pastor of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Lafayette, will officiate at the services. Readers will be Katherine Zerangue and Morgan Zerangue. Giftbearers will be Kerri Acosta and Payton Zerangue. Eucharistic Minister will be Peggy Acosta.

Musical selections will be provided by St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church Choir. The songs will be The Old Rugged Cross, Amazing Grace, Isaiah 49, and Here I Am Lord.

Mr. Acosta was a native of Morgan City, LA and a resident of Lafayette. He retired as former owner and operator of Yellow Cab Service in Lafayette. He was a parishioner of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Lafayette. Mr. Acosta was a veteran of the military, having served in the U.S. Navy.

Survivors include his wife of 42 years, the former Betty Brown Acosta of Lafayette; two sons, Troy Thomas Acosta of Lafayette and Chad Anthony Acosta and his wife, Debra, of Cartersville, VA; one daughter, Katherine Acosta Zerangue of Lafayette; seven grandchildren, Benjamin Acosta, Morgan Zerangue, Victoria Acosta, Kerri Acosta, Payton Zerangue, Mya Zerangue, and Zoie Acosta; and one sister, Peggy Acosta of Morgan City.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence John Acosta, Sr. and mother the former Mildred Beadle, both natives of Morgan City; and two sisters, Charlotte Acosta and Jeanette Hebert.

A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 11:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. Friday and will continue from 8:00 a.m. until service time on Saturday.

Pallbearers will be Troy Acosta, Chad Acosta, Ricky Meyer, Milton Gaudin, R.J. Courville, Payton Zerangue, and Keith Briley.

Melancon Funeral Home of Carencro, 4615 North University Avenue was in charge of arrangements.
