He is the son of Nathaniel Spencer, Jr., who was born in Haddam, CT 15 July 1684, died possibly in Spencertown, NY, after 1761, and his second wife, Elizabeth Lee.

Jonathan Spencer was a member of the Third Regt. Tryon Co. Militia. Originally from Montgomery Co. On Gen. Herkimer's trip to Unadilla to confer with Brant. "Pioneers of Unadilla", pgs 106-107. Also pg. 178, "Old N.Y. Frontier" (Notes bottom of page) 1st wife Ruth Mudge, 2nd wife Martha Keech. P.I. pg 636. Also NSDAR #68762. Fisher's 3rd Battallion. Born Westbrook, Ct. Died Unadilla, NY.
