Pearl Trotman Ackaouy, 72, of Athens, died Thursday, Nov. 18, 2010, at her residence.

A native of Decatur, Ala., she was a daughter of the late Samuel and Lucille Pearson Trotman, and was also preceded in death by her husband, the love of her life, Dr. George Ackaouy, in 1993.

She was a graduate of Decatur High School in Decatur, Ala., and a graduate of the Nashville General Hospital School of Nursing in 1959. She resided in Al Khaban, Saudi Arabia, with her husband and their three oldest children from 1962-1965.

She returned to Nashville and worked at Park View Hospital until 1972 when they came to live and work in Athens, and where she assisted her husband in his practice of pediatric medicine. She was a voracious reader, avid flower gardener, European traveler and, most of all, enjoyed hosting family get-togethers.

Survivors include five daughters and four sons-in-law, Suzy and Danny Griffin of Bristol, Va., Annie Vivianne Ackaouy of Athens, Dianne and Thomas Bruce of Chattanooga, Angie and Jason Dahle of Athens, and Andrea and Lucas Tarter of Chattanooga, one son, Anthony Preston Ackaouy of Athens; grandchildren, Lauren Griffin, Logan Griffin, Taylor Griffin, Reagan Griffin, Jacqueline Bruce, John David Bruce, Grayson Bruce, Lucy Bruce, Grahm Dahle, Ryann Dahle, Noah Dahle, Luke Tarter and Annabell Tarter; one sister, Sue Garner of Decatur, Ala.; one sister-in-law, Yvette Sabat of Paris, France; special friends, Danny Blevins and Gloria Whitener; and beloved neighbors, Jay and Susan Carter and Jerry and Shirley Smith.

A private graveside service will be conducted Saturday in the Mausoleum at McMinn Memory Gardens.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to American Cancer Society, c/o Faye Forgety, 120 County Road 447, Athens, TN 37303.
