Sarah Jane Moore was born March 10, 1845, in Ripley County, IN. When she was 2 years old her parents moved to Illinois where they made their home, and where she grew to womanhood. There, March 1867 she married Mathias Agy, son of John Agy and Lydia Griffin Agy. To them two children were born, Mrs. Amanda Jane Allen who died Sept 15, 1899, and Charles Bennet Agy, of Reinbeck, IA. Mathias Agy died in Rock Island County, IL, Feb 7, 1887. Twenty-one years ago the first of last March, Mrs. Agy came to Iowa, and for a time made her home with her son, who then lived on a farm near Grinnell. About ten years ago she moved into the home on Center St where she has since lived continuously. While living in Illinois Mrs. Agy was converted and united with the Baptist church. While still living in the country near Grinnell she united with the Baptist church of his city. She has been a faithful and consistent member during all these years. Summer or winter, she was always in her place at the various services of the church whenever health permitted. Last Thursday night she sat in her accustomed seat at the prayer meeting, and was apparently in usual health. Friday, she was happy and cheerful, retiring in apparent health. At about three o'clock, Saturday morning, Miss Ethel Collins, a grand niece of Mrs. Agy, who has been making her home with her while attending the Business College, was awakened by her labored breathing. A neighbor was called in, and the doctor summoned, but death came almost immediately. The life was one of quiet helpfulness; and tho death came unexpectedly, it found her ready.
The funeral services were held in the Baptist church Monday afternoon. Rev. Frank H. Webster officiating. Interment was in Hazelwood Cemetery. The son, and other relatives, have the sympathy of the many friends who have known the real worth of the deceased.
Those from out of town were her son, Charles Agy, and wife and two sons, Clyde and Harlan of Reinbeck; J.H. Moore and wife; Thomas Moore and wife; Harold Moore and wife; and Miss Fern Strawbridge of Whitten; Mrs. Riley Collins of Union; Charles Moore and wife of Estherville, IA; George Allen and son Clarence, a grandson of Mrs. Agy, of Joy, IL.
