Bluecher Hudson "Blue" Annis joined the spirit world November 12th 2010. He was born June 13th 1980 at 11:32 am in Rapid City, SD to Sammy and Irma Annis.
His name came from his grandpa Fat Annis. He lived his early years on the Annis Ranch on the Grand River west of Cherry Creek and in Eagle Butte. He was introduced to the cowboy way of life at an early age by his grandfather Fat and father Sammy. Blue had a connection with and loved all animals, and had a special gift working with horses. Before he could even walk he was riding horses. His grandpa Fat would take Blue around, and when they stopped, Blue would cry. Needless to say, the loving grandfather was challenged.
Blue would tag along on all the ranch chores, feeding the cows, branding, gathering cows and riding in the swather. Love of this life came naturally to Blue.
Blue had to go to school, so he moved to town. His grandmother Bertha became influential and made him a Traditional Dance outfit which he performed in several times just to make her happy. But the cowboy way of life was never far from his heart.
He got his first taste of what would lead him to the 8-second fever, riding a sheep at the age of four. He also rode his first bronc that same year during the Fair. His dad got bucked off first and Blue lasted a few more jumps before falling off.
Blue was baptized and received his First Communion with friends and relatives at the All Saints Catholic Church in Eagle Butte.
Blue attended grade school in Eagle Butte and was involved in many things and enjoyed sports. He eventually crossed paths with Tell Pearman who became his brother for life. Tell's parents, Jim and Terri Pearman, became his mom and dad, and as they were also ranchers, continued to nurture Blue in this way of life. He called them mom and dad until his last day.
When Blue entered high school he acquired many more friends who became his life-long brothers. His personality was such that he made a friend wherever he went.
Blue was an outstanding athlete. He was active in wrestling, football and basketball but rodeo was never far from his heart.
He was on the high school rodeo team where he won third in Bull Riding at the 1997 high school state finals. In 1998 he became the GPIRA Rookie of the year.
From 1995 to 1997 he was a Lakota Nation Invitational wrestling champion and also accomplished every young man's dream, participating in the 1999 State Basketball Tournament!
After Blue graduated from Eagle Butte High School 1999, he joined the PRCA and the 8 second fever continued. Blue pursued his education by attending Eastern Wyoming College in Torrington, WY, and in 2001, went to Panhandle State
University.
Blue had many talents and could do anything he wanted, but all his jobs seemed to come down to the ranch life. His favorite job was breaking horses and working cattle.
Blue had two children, Olivia Lorraine and Jackson Joe whom he loved very much.
In June 2009, he married Lisa Dryden from Oelrichs, SD, living in Eagle Butte and Oelrichs. While in Oelrichs, he helped on his father-in-law's (Richard Dryden's) ranch.
He also enjoyed helping all the local ranchers who knew they could depend on Blue to get the job done.
