John Davenport Shumate, 43, died Sunday. Services were Monday afternoon at the home. Burial was in Oakland Cemetery. Mr. Shumate was the son of the late Clarence Shumate and grandson of the Rev. S. D. Davenport, early dean of St. Matthew's Cathedral. He was formerly a member of the St. Matthew's Cathedral choir and the Dallas male chorus. He was a Mason and a native of Dallas. Survived by his mother, Mrs Clarence Shumate; his grandmother, Mrs. M. H. Davenport; three sisters, Mrs. Bryan Snyder, Jr., Mrs. John S. Loomis, and Mrs. Curtice Holland; and a brother, Clarence Shumate, all of Dallas.
