Mrs. Nancy Reed, age 76 years,
11 months and 26 days, died at her
home, two miles southwest of
Sharpsville, on Monday evening at
4:54 o'clock of paralysis.
Mrs. Nancy Reed had been declining
in health for some time, but she
was able to be up and continue at
her house work, a grandson, Harry
Warner, residing with her. Last
Friday morning. Harry got up and
went out and performed his morning
chores, and when he came back
to the house, he found that his
grandmother had not yet arisen.
He went to her room to call her, so
that she could get his breakfast,
when to his horror, he saw her lying
on the floor in a prostrate condition.
He picked her up and laid
her on the bed and at once called
for neighbors and a physician. Upon
the arrival of the physician, he
found that she had suffered, a stroke
of paralysis and that there was very
little hope for her recovery. The
family was at once summoned and in
a short time all were there. She
did not recover consciousness, except
for a few moments at a time
and at no time was she able to
speak. She remained in a comatose
condition until her death.
She was born September 17, 1838,
her father being Thomas Drake and
her mother was Ellen Hill. She had
one full brother and one full sister,
both deceased. However, she is survived
by one-half brother, John Drake, of Elwood
and one half-sister,Mrs. Mary Trulock
of Bartholomew county. When she grew to
young womanhood, she was united in
marriage to William H. Reed, the latter
having died in 1899. She became the
mother of eight children, four, of
whom are deceased.. Those surviving
her are Mrs. Marble Richards,
near Sharpsville; Mrs. James Harper,
south of Sharpsville; Mrs.
Wright Glass, of near Nevada: and
William H. Reed;, of near Elwood.
She is also survived by twelve grand
children and three great grandchildren.
Mrs. Reed was a member of
the Methodist church, and she was a
true Christian woman. She was a
good mother and devoted to her
relatives. She was a woman in whom
neighbors and friends found a companion
that was good, pure and of
high character. She was an intelligent
woman, always keeping abreast
of the age in which she lived. Her
death is a shock to her neighbors and friends.
